Team Point System Synopsis
In an effort to get more out of our off-season program and take the next step toward competing for a state championship, we have added a team point system to help athletes develop teamwork and leadership skills above those we already instill in the Northmont football program.
All players (grades 9-12) will be drafted into teams by the senior class; the returning veterans will be drafted in January, the rookies and freshmen will be drafted in February after they complete the requirements of the orientation sessions. Each team will compete to gain the highest amount of points possible for a monthly period. The winning team for the month will get special gifts (restaurant gift certificates, special incentives, etc.) for that month. The losing team will have weight room clean-up detail or other less desirable duties. The overall last place team for the entire off-season is the Dummy Squad for the next football season. The monthly prizes will be announced at the beginning of each month so the players know what they are getting.
Players earn team points (these are not to be confused with the off-season point system, which allows the player to earn individual points for the upcoming season) to help fulfill there contribution to the group. Players who continually lose points for their team may be dropped from the team by each team’s captains. This process requires the captains to present reasons why they want to release the athlete from their squad to the coach in charge of their team, along with Coach Schneider. Players who lose more than 100 points for their team during the entire off-season will be dismissed from the football program.
Football teaches students responsibility, dedication, character, and all of those positive virtues needed for a person to be successful. This program will help players to understand these concepts on a greater level, and allow our program to grow while helping them develop attributes to be successful throughout their lives.
