Coaching Bios
Lance Schneider- Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator
Coach Schneider enters his ninth season at the helm of the Thunderbolts. Under Coach Schneider, the Bolts’ record is 55-31, having qualified for the OHSAA Division I, Region 4 playoffs in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006. The 2006 Thunderbolts captured their fifth consecutive Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division title. Coach Schneider has earned Division I/II Coach of the Year by the Dayton Daily News and Division I Coach of the Year by the Miami Valley Football Coaches Association (MVFCA) in 2001, and was honored again by the MVFCA in 2003 and 2006. He is active in the MVFCA having served as Vice President in 2002 and President in 2003 and 2004. Coach Schneider was the victorious Head Coach of the North squad in the TimeWarner/MVFCA All-Star Classic in 2002 becoming the first individual to play and coach in the game, winning on both occasions.
Coach Schneider graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education., and has a Masters of Science degree in Sport Management from California University of Pennsylvania. He teaches physical education at the high school, and also serves as Assistant Athletic Director. Lance resides in Englewood with his wife of 14½ years, Lesley and their dogs, Xango and Blitz.
Collin Abels- Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs
Coach Abels is in his 7th season at Northmont, his third as Defensive Coordinator. Collin has a B.S. in Education from the University of Dayton where he played baseball. Coach Abels was a quarterback/defensive back on Northmont’s first state playoff team in 1992. Collin’s first two years as an educator were spent at Greenview High School where he coached baseball and basketball. He teaches history at the high school and also coaches the freshmen basketball team. Collin and his wife, Jenn, reside in Englewood.
Dave King- Offensive Line Coach
Coach King is in his 30th year at Northmont. Dave has B.A. from the University of Akron. He teaches history at the high school. Dave and his wife Toddy, who is employed by Pediatric Associates at Good Samaritan North, have two children; Lucas, a 2005 graduate The Ohio State University with a degree in Psychology, and Alyse, a senior at Eastern Kentucky University majoring in Athletic Training.
Mike Jewsikow- Kicking Coach
Coach Jewsikow is a Northmont grad and attended Wright State and Sinclair Community College. He is currently the owner of Mike Jewsikow Homes. He resides in Clayton with his wife, Amy and sons, Brenden and Logan.
Loren Meadows- Wide Receiver Coach/Strength and Conditioning Coordinator
Coach Meadows enters his 8th season at Northmont as the Wide Receivers Coach. Coach Meadows previously held assistant coaching positions at Urbana University, Northern Durham High School in Durham, NC, and as a Graduate Assistant at Ohio Northern University. Loren is a 1991 graduate of Meadowdale High School and received his BA from Ohio Northern University where he was a four-year letter winner from 1991-1994 at Wide Receiver. Coach Meadows also holds a Master of Education degree from Urbana University. Coach Meadows has served as the Wide Receiver Coach for the North Squad in the 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 Miami Valley Football Coach Association All-Star Games. In addition to his football duties, Coach Meadows serves as the Head Track Coach at Northmont and was honored as the 2007 GWOC North Boys Co-Coach of the Year. Coach Meadows teaches Social Studies at the high school and resides in Union.
Tom Meyer- Linebackers
Coach Meyer enters his 2nd season at Northmont as the Linebackers Coach. He spent ten years as an assistant at Alter High School (1991-2001) and was head coach at Twin Valley South High School for four years (2002-2005). Tom has a B.S. in Education from the University of Dayton where he played football and was a member of the 1989 Division III National Champion team. Tom also begins his first year teaching Social Studies at the high school. He resides in Kettering with his wife of eleven years, Brenda and sons Tommy (10), Connor (7), and Nolan (4).
Adam Miller – Defensive Linemen
Coach Miller enters his second year of coaching with Northmont. He played at Delphos St. John's High School on two state championship teams and was a part of the state record 57 consecutive game winning streak. Adam went on to play football at Ohio Northern University. He has a B.S. from Ohio Northern University in Technology Education. Adam is an Applied Technology teacher at the high school, and resides in Englewood.
Mike Schneider- Quarterbacks/Special Teams Coordinator
Coach Schneider played in high school at Miamisburg and college ball at Wilmington College, where he was MVP and Honorable Mention NAIA All-America quarterback as a senior. He is a member of the Wilmington College Athletic Hall of Fame.
After graduation, he played eight years of minor league football with the Dayton Colts and Columbus Bucks, quarterbacking three championship teams and throwing for over 120 TD’s.
Mike served as head coach at Miamisburg High School from 1976-1980 and at Wayne High School from 1981-1997, compiling an overall record of 156-66-3. Six of his Wayne teams won Western Ohio League titles. Mike is a member of the Wayne Hall School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Coach Schneider was offensive coordinator at Chaminade-Julienne High School in 1998 and in the spring of 1999 served as offensive coordinator of the professional indoor Dayton Skyhawks.
He has three adult children: Thunderbolt Head Coach Lance; and daughters Lori and Leslie; two grandsons and three granddaughters.
Mike Walker- Offensive Quality Control
Mike enters his 20th year of coaching and his 2nd year at Northmont. Before coming to Northmont, he was at Hamilton Township for six years, two of those as the Head Coach. Prior to Hamilton Township, Mike also spent time at Springfield South, winning three WOL championships. Coach Walker has also been an assistant at Capital University. As the Head Baseball Coach at Hamilton Township, in 2003, he guided the Rangers to a Final Four appearance. Mike is married to Molly, and they have two daughters, Kate and Megan.
Mike Weber- Assistant Defensive Line
Mike is new to our coaching staff, but helped Coach Abels last year charting the defensive plays. He played football at Grove City High School and went on to graduate from the University of Dayton with a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. Mike and his wife Julie live in the Northmont community with their two children, Cayla and Jacob.
Bob Zolman- Running Backs
Coach Zolman enters his 36th year of coaching. He earned his undergraduate degree at Miami University and a M.Ed. from the University of Dayton. Bob was a head coach for eight seasons at Eaton, Alter, and Xenia, and served as an assistant at the University of Dayton. His overall record is in coaching is 166-101-5, including six league titles and one state runner-up. Bob teaches history at Xenia High School and resides in Miamisburg with his wife, Mary Helen. They have two adult sons, Greg and Jeff.
Norm Lewis- Head Freshmen Coach/Offensive Line
Coach Lewis retired from teaching in 2006 after serving the social studies department at Northmont High School since 1976. He began coaching varsity football in 1978 as an offensive and defensive line coach. He had a brief coaching stint at Meadowdale High School during the 1990-91 seasons before returning to Northmont football. After serving as defensive coordinator four seasons, Coach Lewis returned as Head Freshmen Coach in 2004, a position he previously held from 1992-99. He is married to Kay, and they have two sons, Nathan and Aaron.
Ryan Abels- Freshmen Offensive Skill Players-
Coach Abels is entering his second season at Northmont as a freshman football assistant. Ryan is currently working on his B.S. in Education from the University of Dayton. Coach Abels is a 2002 Northmont graduate where he played both football and basketball. Ryan’s senior class over came a 0-10 season as sophomores to making the playoffs for the first time in 10 years as seniors in 2001. Ryan also assists his brother on the freshman basketball team. Ryan resides in Clayton.
Mike Mangen- Freshmen Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers
Coach Mangen is returning to the Northmont football coaching staff after taking two years off to coach his sons in the Northmont Pee Wee Program. He is a 1981 graduate of Northmont High School and played football at Ohio University. Mike is currently a real estate appraiser. Mike lives in Union with his wife Teri and they have two sons, Clay and Troy, and one daughter, Cory.
Todd Moore- Freshman Defensive Line
Todd is a 1986 graduate of Northmont High School and a 1988 graduate of Sinclair’s Project Stepp II. Todd played football under Ned Booher and was part of the 1984 GMVC Champions and Coach Booher’s 200th win. He also helps coach his son’s 4th Grade Wee Bolt Football team. Todd is a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker and is currently employed by Delphi. Todd and his wife of 17 years, Cindy, reside in Clayton. They have three children, Kasi, 15, Kara, 12, and Troy, 9.
Mike Smith – Freshmen Defensive Backs
Coach Smith has been teaching and coaching football at the high school level since 1981. He has had coaching stints at Trotwood-Madison from 1981-82, West Carrollton from 1983-84, and Northmont from 1986 to the present. The last three seasons, he has served on the Thunderbolt freshmen staff as defensive backs coach. Coach Smith teaches Jobs for Grads and Health/Physical Education at the high school. He and his wife, Lori have a son, Ryan; daughter, Kelly; and two beautiful granddaughters.
