Coaching Bios

 

Lance Schneider- Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator

Coach Schneider enters his eleventh season at the helm of the Thunderbolts.  Under Coach Schneider, the Bolts’ record is 72-37, having qualified for the OHSAA Division I, Region 4 playoffs in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006, 2007, and 2008.  The 2008 Thunderbolts captured their seventh consecutive Greater Western Ohio Conference divisional title.  Coach Schneider has earned Division I/II Coach of the Year by the Dayton Daily News and Division I Coach of the Year by the Miami Valley Football Coaches Association (MVFCA) in 2001, 2003, 2006, and 2008.  He is active in the MVFCA having served as Vice President in 2002 and President in 2003 and 2004.  Coach Schneider was the victorious Head Coach of the North squad in the TimeWarner/MVFCA All-Star Classic in 2002 becoming the first individual to play and coach in the game, winning on both occasions.

 

Coach Schneider has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Dayton in Physical Education, and has a Masters of Science degree in Sport Management from California University of Pennsylvania.  He teaches weight training at the high school, and also serves as Assistant Athletic Director.  Lance resides in Englewood with his wife of 16½ years, Lesley, their year-old son, Henry, and their dogs, Xango and Blitz.


Tony Broering- Associate Head Coach/Wide Receiver Coach
Coach Broering begins his 19th year in coaching, his first at Northmont. Prior to this season he spent the last five years as the Offensive Coordinator at Piqua High School, where in 2006 they won the state championship.  Previously Coach Broering was the Head Football coach at Springfield South where he worked from 1991-2005. In 2005 Coach Broering was selected to be the Offensive Coordinator in the Ohio vs. Pennsylvania BIG 33 Classic.  Coach Broering has also coached in the MVFCA All Star Game eight times and served as the winning Head Coach in 2001.  Coach Broering has been selected on two occasions by the MVFCA as the Assistant Coach of the Year, once for Offense and once for Defense.

Coach Broering received his Bachelors Degree from MuskingumCollege.  He will teach Social Studies in the High School and also serve as the Thunderbolts Head Track Coach.

Tony resides in Springfield with his wife, Michelle, and five year old daughter, Alexandria.
Mike Schneider- Quarterbacks/Special Teams Coordinator
Coach Schneider played in high school at Miamisburg and college ball at Wilmington College, where he was MVP and Honorable Mention NAIA All-America quarterback as a senior.  He is a member of the Wilmington College Athletic Hall of Fame.

After graduation, he played eight years of minor league football with the Dayton Colts and Columbus Bucks, quarterbacking three championship teams and throwing for over 120 TD’s.  He is in the Dayton Colts Hall of  Fame.

Mike served as head coach at Miamisburg High School from 1976-1980 and at Wayne High School from 1981-1997, compiling an overall record of 156-66-3.  Six of his Wayne teams won Western Ohio League titles.  Mike is a member of the Wayne Hall School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Miamisburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Coach Schneider was offensive coordinator at Chaminade-JulienneHigh School in 1998 and in the spring of 1999 served as offensive coordinator of the professional indoor Dayton Skyhawks.
He has three adult children: Thunderbolt Head Coach Lance; and daughters Lori and Leslie; three grandsons and three granddaughters.
Collin Abels- Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs
Coach Abels is in his 10th season at Northmont, his sixth as Defensive Coordinator.  Collin has a B.S. and a Masters in Education from the University of Dayton where he played baseball.  Coach Abels was a quarterback/defensive back on Northmont’s first state playoff team in 1992.  Collin’s first two years as an educator were spent at Greeneview High School where he coached baseball and basketball.  He teaches history at the high school and also coaches the JV basketball team.  Collin his wife, Jenn, and their year-old daughter, Brianna, reside in Englewood.
Dave King- Offensive Line Coach
Coach King is in his 32nd year at Northmont.  Dave has a B.A. from the University of Akron.  He teaches history at the high school.  Dave and his wife Toddy have two children; Lucas, a 2005 graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in Psychology and a Master's degree from Wismar University in Germany for Architecture Lighting Design, and Alyse, working on her Master’s degree in Athletic Training at the University of Florida.
Tom Meyer- Linebackers
Coach Meyer enters his 4th season at Northmont as the Linebackers Coach. He spent ten years as an assistant at Alter High School (1991-2001) and was head coach at Twin Valley South High School for four years (2002-2005).  Tom has a B.S. in Education from the University of Dayton where he played football and was a member of the 1989 Division III National Champion team.  Tom teaches Social Studies at the high school.  He resides in Kettering with his wife of thirteen years, Brenda and sons Tommy (12), Connor (9), and Nolan (6).
Mike Mangen- Defensive Line
Coach Mangen is a 1981 graduate of Northmont High School and played football at Ohio University.   Mike is currently a real estate appraiser.  Mike lives in Union with his wife Teri and they have two sons, Clay and Troy, and one daughter, Cory.
Mike Weber- Assistant Defensive Line
Mike is in his 3rd year on the Thunderbolt staff.  He played football at Grove City High School and went on to graduate from the University of  Dayton with a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.  Mike and his wife Julie live in the Northmont community with their two children, Cayla and Jacob.

Freshman Football Staff

Mike Smith – Head Freshmen Coach/Freshmen Linebackers

Coach Smith has been teaching and coaching football at the high school level since 1981.  He has had coaching stints at Trotwood-Madison from 1981-82, West Carrollton from 1983-84, and Northmont from 1986 to the present.  The last five seasons, he has served on the Thunderbolt freshmen staff as defensive backs coach, and this year adds Head Coach to his title.  Coach Smith teaches Jobs for Grads and Health/Physical Education at the high school.  He and his wife, Lori have a son, Ryan; daughter, Kelly; and two beautiful granddaughters.


Shane Kincer- Freshmen Offensive Coordinator

Shane is in his 2nd season at Northmont, last year with the 7th grade.  Shane has a B.S. in Mathematics and Education from Wilmington College.  Shane played for Northmont under Coach Schneider from 1999-2002.  Shane teaches math at the high school and also coaches a middle school basketball team.  Shane is engaged and resides in Lewisburg.


Marcus Overman- Freshmen Offensive Line

Marcus is entering his first year of teaching and coaching after graduating from The University of Dayton in May.  He graduated with a Middle Childhood Degree and will be teaching 7th grade math.  He played four years at guard for the Flyers, and was part of the 2007 Division I-AA Mid-Major National Championship team.


Todd Moore- Freshman Defensive Line

Todd is a 1986 graduate of Northmont High School and a 1988 graduate of Sinclair’s Project Stepp II. Todd played football under Ned Booher and was part of the 1984 GMVC Champions and Coach Booher’s 200th win. He also helps coach his son’s 6th Grade Wee Bolt Football team. Todd is a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker and is currently employed by The James Group. Todd and his wife of 19 years, Cindy, reside in Clayton. They have three children, Kasi, 17, Kara, 14, and Troy, 11.


Aaron Fister- Freshmen Defensive Backs

Aaron is a 2002 graduate of Northmont High School. As a defensive back, he was a 3- year starter for the Bolts under Coach Schneider from 1999-2001. Aaron holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Environmental Health Science from Wright State University and currently is employed at Public Health Dayton and Montgomery County. Aaron resides in Tipp City.
